A deep love of all animals was instilled in Sue Coccia at a very young age and she has dedicated her life's work to them. Sue has a formal art training background, however she was truly inspired by her high school art teacher, d'Elaine Johnson, an internationally recognized artist. Sue’s Native American heritage from her Grandmother's side, as well as indigenous art and its relationship with the animal worlds have had a large influence on Sue’s unique style. Sue is best known for her intricate pen and ink drawings on watercolor paper of “Animal Spirits”. The drawings are meticulously hand-painted with acrylic paints and depict animal images, or totems, from around the world. Animal Totems represent a deep spirituality. She includes a hidden ladybug in every image representing good luck, happiness, and prosperity. Sue is an incredible person we have enjoyed knowing personally for over ten years. We met her through attending art shows and wholesale shows together as artists. She is an avid gardener, a black belt in TaekwonDo, and spends most of her time with her family, in meditation, and in the artistic process. Essential Art Gallery & Fine Gifts currently has three of Sue’s original drawings available—The Hawk, The Fox, and The Rooster. In addition to Sue’s original drawings, Essential Art Gallery & Fine Gifts also carries Sue’s images in the very popular wooden Liberty puzzles, enamel jewelry, cotton throw blankets, and microfiber cloths perfect for cleaning iPads and phones.
